When Robert first came across Ozponds, his backyard was, in his own words, “a grassy green desert.”
Less than 12 months later, he’s transformed it into a thriving pond ecosystem — and he’s only about halfway through his journey (pictures below).
The Build
Robert’s pond holds around 11,000 litres, paired with a 2,500-litre bog filter and a 6-metre stream.
He runs the system with a 10,000lph DC pump at 50% output, which keeps the water moving gently but efficiently. On one side, an intake bay draws the water through before it cycles back down the stream.
He started with just 8 goldfish — today he has over 50 thriving fish and counting, proof that when you get the design right, nature takes over.
The Garden Around the Pond
Robert hasn’t just built a pond — he’s created a backyard oasis. Surrounding the water feature are fruit trees, herbs he cooks with daily, and veggie patch. At night, over 1,000 addressable LEDs light up the space, with another 1,000 still to come.
What’s Next?
Like many of us, Robert is building in stages. He still has liner to cover and rocks to add, but even at this halfway point, his yard has gone from plain lawn to a true backyard paradise.
Robert’s Words
“After seeing your post on YouTube I thought I’d share my pond journey. I’ve watched most of your videos, some over and over. The details you’ve shown on how to construct a successful pond ecosystem have been invaluable. Thanks again for your videos, Kev. They’re greatly appreciated.”
