The type of Pump you use will depend on what you are using it for. You can use the links below to check out various pump options.
If you are after solar I have another page dedicated to solar pump options.
And if you are in Australia you can check out my preferred pump supplier here.

DC Sine Wave/submersible pumps
For most of my pond builds, I tend to prefer DC variable-speed sine-wave pond pumps. They’re quiet, energy-efficient, and easy to fine-tune to suit different pond layouts and flow requirements.
These pumps work best when placed in a skimmer or intake bay, which keeps them cleaner and dramatically reduces maintenance.

Solid Handeling/ Submersible Pumps
If want a pump on the bottom of the pond to collect heavier debris and settled water. In that case, you’ll want a solid-handling pump designed to cope with dirty water.
The water will then be pumped to a filter that collects the waste

External Pond Pump
External pumps aren’t as energy efficient as submersible pond pumps. In many jurisdictions if you plan on swimming in the pond the authorities will require you to have an external pump.

Air Pumps
Another option in swimming are air pumps to move water or assist with circulation and oxygenation.
This is a bit more advanced but the idea is the air displaces water in the filter, new water then move in and thats how the water is circulated through the filter.

Clean Out Pumps
These pumps are used to completely empty a pond or bog filter.
They are designed to pump very dirty water with lots of sediment.
Not to be used to run a pond continuously.
