Hi Kev,
Thanks for all the great content!
The Location
Tampa, Florida — warm weather, lots of sun, and the perfect setting for a small backyard pond.
The Build
Mike used a Kim Ponds 300-gallon cedar pond kit paired with a 55-gallon drum to create a compact, crystal-clear pond that fits neatly beside his pool.
Originally, he tried using an Oase FilterClear 18W 3000 Pond Boss, but quickly found it wasn’t enough for the setup. After watching Ozponds on YouTube, Mike decided to build his own DIY bog filter instead — and it completely changed the pond.
Filtration Setup
- Bog Filter: 55-gallon drum
- Pump: Tetra Pond Debris-Handling Pump
- Media: Lava rock, pea gravel, and cinder block base
- Plumbing: Copper outlet pipe
- Old setup: Oase FilterClear 18W 3000 Pond Boss (retired)
Now, the bog keeps his water clear and plants thriving, with lush growth and happy fish.
