Craig’s Arizona Pond Showcase

Craig’s desert pond in Arizona with fresh planting and river rock

Craig, from Arizona, set out to build his dream pond right in the desert — a challenge many people ask me about. Using the principles from my Pond Formulas Blueprint, he’s created a thriving oasis in one of the harshest climates around.

Despite full sun and 110°F (43°C+) heat, Craig reports:

“All I learned from you worked wonderfully and never had algae bloom.”

That’s the power of designing the pond properly from the start. I also suspect that because Craig uses bore water, the water was already alive with loads of beneficial organisms.

Craig admits he couldn’t have done it alone:

“I could not have built this without your help, money and time well spent. Still have a lot of planting and mulching and a couple more loads of river rock but should be done in September.”

Even before it was fully finished, the wildlife wasted no time moving in. Within a month:

“Toads, dragonflies, birds all over. Our yard has hundreds of baby toads and dragonflies’ larva filling the water. Had tadpoles the first week.”

It’s proof that a natural pond isn’t just decoration — it creates a living ecosystem that thrives, even in the desert. His wife might still think he’s crazy, but I reckon the results speak for themselves!

G'day, I'm Kev. My pond and water garden started with simple aquariums. I have created many ponds and water gardens around our home: Fish ponds, Aquaponic systems, grey-water wetlands and bog filters. My favourite topic is water filtration.
