Many people dream of having a pond, but Tom from Warsaw, Poland, didn’t let city life stop him!
After watching Ozponds videos, taking notes, and planning carefully, he built an incredible DIY pond right in the center of Poland’s largest city.
Here’s Tom’s story, in his own words:
Tom’s Email
Dear Kev,
I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for your inspiring and informative videos on your Ozponds YouTube channel.
For a long time, I dreamed of having my own pond, but I was waiting—watching your videos, making notes, and sketching ideas. Your videos became an invaluable source of information and motivation for me (and also some kind of anti-stress, calming material).
But!
Thanks to your detailed instructions and practical advice, I was able to build my own pond, which exceeded my wildest expectations.
I should mention that I live in the center of Warsaw (the capital of Poland). And it may seem strange, but some city residents in Poland, despite living in apartment buildings, have small private gardens. The city allocates areas where people can rent their own garden plots. So, my pond was created almost in the very center of the largest city in Poland! 😃
It’s a new pond, built just last year, and I haven’t added fish yet. Over time, I plan to add more plants to create a truly natural-looking pond.
Filtration System
I’ve implemented a filtration system based on your recommendations:
- Two Jebao pumps:
- A Jebao 1500 for surface water (I made an intake bay with over 1m depth of stones, gravel, and expanded clay).
- A Jebao 500 for bottom water from the deepest point (I built an intake box under the gravel).
- A 600-liter filter container filled with LECA and filter sponges.
- And the best part—this container is a custom-made fake rock!
- The filtered water returns to the pond as a stream.
A Unique Design Element
In the photos, you’ll see a bridge. I placed it behind the eye, creating the illusion that there is something further beyond—a little trick to make the space feel bigger!
I don’t know if I will be able to fit all the photos in one email, so if necessary, I’ll send more.
If you see something in a photo that you think requires explanation, just ask!
Once again, thank you very much for your work and for sharing your knowledge so openly.
Sincerely,
Tom
