My personal choice for pond liner is EPDM rubber. It’s what Ive used on all my ponds.
I have also used HDPE, that was on my grey water wetland.
If you are going to construct an ecosystem pond with rocks and pebble I would certainly stick with EPDM rubber.
HDPE and LLDPE are more rigid, but I think they are a perfectly fine choice for a small fish pond, with no rock and pebble.
