🕷️ Shelob Moves In: Stacey’s Backyard Pond Transformation

backyard pond transformation

From a weedy patch of dirt to a peaceful pond — spider included.

From Dirt to Oasis

This little corner used to be nothing special — just weeds and bare soil right off the back patio. But thanks to Stacey, one of our awesome Ozponds community members, it’s now a peaceful, low-maintenance pond that’s already attracting wildlife.

The pond is about 2 metres (6 feet) wide, slightly longer, and features a handmade waterfall that Stacey’s still tweaking (because let’s be honest — we all do!).
It’s flowing beautifully, and it looks even better.

Say G’day to Shelob 🕷️

Before the goldfish moved in, Shelob claimed the pond as her own — a harmless wolf spider seen carrying her babies on her back.

Some people would run from that, but Stacey embraced it. It’s the kind of detail that makes backyard ponds so unique — you never know who’s going to show up first!

Built the Ozponds Way

Stacey used the Ozponds Blueprint to guide the build, proving again that you don’t need a massive budget or a professional crew to create something beautiful.

With the right plan, a bit of patience, and the willingness to get your hands dirty, anyone can turn a forgotten corner of their yard into a little slice of pond paradise.

Big thanks to Stacey for sharing her journey and inspiring the rest of us pond dreamers!

Kev

G'day, I'm Kev. My pond and water garden started with simple aquariums. I have created many ponds and water gardens around our home: Fish ponds, Aquaponic systems, grey-water wetlands and bog filters. My favourite topic is water filtration.
